New York Apple Core survives Jersey Wildcats comeback, wins 7-5

Jersey Wildcats tried its best to erase a three-goal deficit, but New York Apple Core would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 7-5.

A goal by Derek Caruso put New York Apple Core up 7-4 in the third period, but Jersey Wildcats pulled to within two on Nicholas Hermann's tally 14:41 into the third period.

New York Apple Core got the win with help from a great game by Jonathan Novak, who had two goals and one assist. Novak scored the first of his two goals short handed at 2:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 New York Apple Core. New York Apple Core found itself down a man on Robert DeLury's interference. Novak's next tally short handed made the score 4-2 New York Apple Core with 6:35 left in the second period. An elbowing call on Brandon Gaynor put New York Apple Core on the penalty kill. Benjamin Sorkin assisted on the tally.

New York Apple Core forced Jersey Wildcats' netminders to work in net, totaling 36 shots and forcing 29 saves. Christoph Mutschin made 27 stops and Grant Perry made two. New York Apple Core's goal total was higher than its season average. New York Apple Core has scored at the pace of four goals per game during the current campaign. New York Apple Core's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as New York Apple Core finished with 32 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Eric Krupka, who totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one misconduct.

New York Apple Core also had goals scored by Cameron Giertych, who had one and Dillon Radin, who had two. More assists for New York Apple Core came via Michael Rodriguez, who had two and Brian Hurley and Kieran Hurley, who each chipped in one.

Jersey Wildcats additionally got points from Martin Rovnak, who also racked up one goal and one assist, James Trenkle, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Ryan Morse, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Hermann, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Jersey Wildcats got a goal from Austin Nye as well.

Brian August made 21 saves for New York Apple Core on 26 shots. New York Apple Core registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Jersey Wildcats incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
