Mass Maple Leafs beats Springfield Jr Pics 6-5 after comeback scare

Mass Maple Leafs survived a determined comeback attempt by Springfield Jr Pics on the way to a 6-5 win.

Mass Maple Leafs took a 6-3 lead during the third period, only to have Springfield Jr Pics storm back on a Zachary Smith goal 16:08 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Joseph Fernandes had two goals and one assist to lead Mass Maple Leafs. Fernandes scored the first of his two goals at 8:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mass Maple Leafs. Michael Owen picked up the assist. Fernandes' next tally made the score 5-3 Mass Maple Leafs with 11:36 left in the third period. Sidney Thomas provided the assist.

Springfield Jr Pics was unable to stop Mass Maple Leafs from sending pucks towards the net, and Mass Maple Leafs eventually piled up 46 shots on goal. Mass Maple Leafs gave up more goals than its normal season average. Mass Maple Leafs is averaging two goals against for the season. Mass Maple Leafs could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Rick Loveless, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
