Fernandes leads Mass Maple Leafs over Springfield Jr Pics, 8-2

Behind a great game by Joseph Fernandes, who had two goals and one assist, Mass Maple Leafs defeated Springfield Jr Pics, 8-2.

Fernandes' tallies came on the power play at 6:55 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Mass Maple Leafs and 51 seconds into the third to make the score 5-2 Mass Maple Leafs.

Springfield Jr Pics' power play was ineffective against Mass Maple Leafs' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 17 penalties during the game.

Mass Maple Leafs forced Springfield Jr Pics goalie Luke Lepine to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. Mass Maple Leafs could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Fernandes, who totaled six minutes in penalty time with three minors.

Mass Maple Leafs additionally got points from Steven Hole, who also had one goal and one assist, Colin Cordeiro, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Kurtis Garcia, who also finished with one goal and two assists, and Kyle Gasior, who also registered one goal and two assists. Mass Maple Leafs got a goal from Ryan Fehnel as well. More assists for Mass Maple Leafs came via Michael Owen, who had three and Adam McGrath and Rick Loveless, who contributed one each.

Springfield Jr Pics' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Springfield Jr Pics finished with 16 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Tyler DeMarco, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors.

Donald Hesse turned away 19 pucks between the pipes for Mass Maple Leafs. Mass Maple Leafs registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Luke Lepine made 25 saves for Springfield Jr Pics on 33 shots.
