St. Louis takes care of Chicago early, wins 16-2

The St. Louis Bandits opened up a six-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 16-2 over the Chicago Hitmen.

St. Louis got the win on the strength of a great game by Joseph Birmingham, who had two goals and three assists. Birmingham scored the first of his two goals at 9:05 into the first period to make the score 2-0 St. Louis. Joe Kalisz assisted on the tally. Birmingham's next tally made the score 16-2 St. Louis with 9:59 left in the third period. Rance Hughes picked up the assist.

The Bandits managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. St. Louis ended up below its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. The Bandits found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. St. Louis averages 4.0 goals per game. The defensemen of the Bandits were also effective in Chicago's zone, and came away with three goals. St. Louis' offense was clicking better than usual and put 55 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.4 shots per game it averages.

St. Louis additionally got points from Brendan Wilson, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Patrick Pollock, who also grabbed two goals and two assists, Kalisz, who also racked up three goals and two assists, Drew Kariofiles, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Frank Dichiara, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Josh Dangel, who also grabbed one goal and four assists to lead the team in points, Ryan Zehnder, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Ryan Stouffer, who also grabbed three goals and one assist. Drew Slaton also scored for St. Louis. In addition, St. Louis received assists from Ryan Hogland, who had three, Taylor Wolfe, Cody Ganchar, and Wes Elrod, who contributed one a piece, and TJ Sherman and Garret Peterson, who each chipped in two.

The 28 shots that the Hitmen put on net surpassed Chicago's average of 23.0 shots per game this season.

The Hitmen were helped by Matt Cessna, who tallied one goal and one assist. Cessna scored 1:01 into the third period to make the score 13-2 St. Louis. Steven Sherman assisted on the tally. Chicago also got a goal from Andrew Paras as well. More assists for Chicago came via Alec DeAngelo, who had one.

Spencer Viele rejected 26 shots on goal for the Bandits. St. Louis registered one goal on two power play opportunities. Chicago's starting goalie, Ryan Coyne, made 18 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Nick Kohn, who stopped 21 shots. The Hitmen incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
