Texas pulls away in second, rolls over Corpus Christi, 6-1

The Texas Tornado used a four-goal second period to put away the Corpus Christi IceRays, 6-1.

Texas got the win with help from a great game by Jackson Leef, who had two goals and one assist. Leef scored the first of his two goals at 11:36 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Texas. John Kirtland provided the assist. Leef's next tally made the score 5-1 Texas with 1:49 left in the second period. The Tornado had taken the advantage when Corpus Christi's AJ Jarosz got sent off for slashing. Jordan Lovick assisted on the tally.

Texas stifled the IceRays' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Tornado bested their season scoring average. Texas averages 3.6 goals per game. With 41 shots on target during the contest, the Tornado exceeded the 28.0 shots they average per game this year.

Texas additionally got points from Lovick, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Taylor Herndon, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Texas also got a goal from Ondrej Kopta as well. In addition, Texas received assists from Alex Temby, Nick Neville, Justin Greenberg, Jordan Greenberg, and Mico Solorzano, who contributed one a piece.

The 25 shots that Corpus Christi put on net surpassed the IceRays' average of 21.0 shots per game this season.

Corpus Christi was led by Eric Purcell, who scored the team's only goal. Purcell scored 48 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Danny Fetzer picked up the assist.

Frederick Leisner took the win and made 12 saves before being replaced by Joakim Jutras who made 12 saves. Texas incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The IceRays' Anthony Stolarz stopped 35 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Corpus Christi incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
