Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Fairbanks Ice Dogs defeated the Dawson Creek Rage in a shootout 2-1 (2-0 SO). The shootout lasted for seven attempts between the teams. In addition to the clincher, Fairbanks got a shootout goal from Nick Hinz.The Ice Dogs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Fairbanks' defensemen bolstered the Ice Dogs' offensive attack, as they bombarded Edward Dyson with 17 shots. With 33 shots on target during the contest, Fairbanks exceeded the 22.7 shots it averages per game this year. The Ice Dogs were led by Jeff Earnest, who finished with one goal. Earnest scored short handed 10:18 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Fairbanks. Fairbanks played down a man on Rudy Sulmonde's cross checking. Logan Wendling provided the assist. Dawson Creek's offense was clicking better than usual and put 25 shots on goal during the game, better than the 22.4 shots per game it averages. The Rage were led by Troy Petrick, who scored the team's only goal. Petrick scored 10:00 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Ryan Matthews picked up the assist. Alex Fons recorded 24 saves for the Ice Dogs. Fairbanks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Dawson Creek's Dyson stopped 31 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Rage incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
