St. Louis pulls away in second, rolls over Chicago, 8-0

The St. Louis Bandits scored four goals in the second period to pull away from the Chicago Hitmen and clinch an 8-0 win.

Tyler Green spearheaded the defensive effort for St. Louis, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 33 saves for the shutout. Green managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.41 prior to the game.

The Bandits were sparked by Taylor Wolfe, who tallied one goal and one assist. Wolfe scored on the power play 9:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Louis. A checking from behind penalty on Andrew Paras had put St. Louis on the power play. Joseph Birmingham provided the assist.

The Bandits put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Chicago to score on any of its three power plays. St. Louis' defensive play was more effective than usual against the Hitmen. The Bandits average 2.5 goals allowed per game. St. Louis bested its season scoring average. This season, the Bandits average 3.8 goals per contest. By firing 46 shots on goal, St. Louis exceeded the 28.9 shots it averages per game this year.

St. Louis also got points from Josh Dangel, who also racked up two goals and one assist to lead the team in points, Ryan Zehnder, who also had one goal and one assist, Luc Boby, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Ryan Hogland, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Cody Ganchar also scored for St. Louis. More assists for St. Louis came via Drew Kariofiles, Wes Elrod, and Ryan Stouffer, who contributed one a piece and Joe Kalisz, Frank Dichiara, and Drew Slaton, who each chipped in two.

Chicago did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Hitmen put an average of 2.8 pucks into the net per game. Chicago's offense rang up 33 shots on the Bandits' net.

The Hitmen were led by Josh Nardella, who took five shots.

St. Louis incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Chicago's Nick Kohn stopped 38 shots out of the 46 that he faced. The Hitmen incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Chicago ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Sean Madigan was ejected from the game.
