Dawson Creek vanquishes Kenai River in shootout, 4-3 (4-2 SO)Soldotna Sports Center Fri, Mar 23, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Dawson Creek Rage defeated the Kenai River Brown Bears in a shootout 4-3 (4-2 SO). The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. Kenai River's shootout goals were scored by Chris Blessing and Sean Muller. In addition to the clincher, Dawson Creek got shootout goals from Austin Adduono, Carter Page, and Shawn Mueller.Mueller was all over the ice for the Rage, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Mueller scored at seven seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Dawson Creek and again while 9:58 into the first to make the score 2-0 Dawson Creek. Dawson Creek pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 16 penalty minutes. The Rage relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Jason Wark, Ryan Matthews and Troy Petrick took 10 of the team's 18 shots. Other players who recorded assists for Dawson Creek were Keenan Bailey and Brett Zarazun, who contributed one a piece and Scott Fellnermayr and Page, who each chipped in two. The Brown Bears put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Dawson Creek to score on any of its three power plays. By firing 43 shots on goal, Kenai River exceeded the 25.3 shots it averages per game this year. The Brown Bears were helped by Marek Hemsky, who had one goal. Hemsky scored 7:27 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Brett Lubanski picked up the assist. Kenai River also got a goal from Ryan Walker as well. More assists for Kenai River came via Kellen Wasell, Jesse Ramsey, and Miikael Arkimo, who contributed one a piece. The Rage's Paul Bourbeau stopped 40 shots out of the 43 that he faced. Austin Severson rejected 14 shots on goal for Kenai River. The Brown Bears incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
