Fairbanks uses shootout to best Fresno, 5-4 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Fairbanks Ice Dogs defeated the Fresno Monsters in a shootout 5-4 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed seven turns to complete the shootout. Fairbanks' other shootout goal was scored by Alec Hajdukovich.

With 41 shots on target during the contest, the Ice Dogs exceeded the 28.8 shots they average per game this year.

Fairbanks was helped by Evan Wilson, who finished with one goal. Wilson scored 15:15 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Fairbanks. Jeff Earnest picked up the assist. Fairbanks additionally got points from Gabe Levin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Justin Woods, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Fairbanks also got a goal from Rudy Sulmonde as well. In addition, Fairbanks received assists from Hajdukovich, who had one and JT Osborn and Max Birkinbine, who each chipped in two.

Fresno stifled the Ice Dogs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 26 shots that the Monsters put on net surpassed Fresno's average of 22.0 shots per game this season.

The Monsters were helped by Dominic Valencia, who racked up one goal. Valencia scored 10:14 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Brendan Bradley provided the assist. Fresno also got points from Riley Borer, who also had one goal and one assist and Luke Sandler, who also registered one goal and one assist. Karl Andersen also scored for Fresno. Other players who recorded assists for Fresno were Carl Witty, Jeffrey Pauluk, and Ryan Doner, who contributed one a piece.

Fairbanks' Alex Fons stopped 22 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Ice Dogs finished the contest with no penalties and went 0-for-4 with the man advantage. Tomas Sholl made 36 saves for Fresno on 40 shots. The Monsters incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors and had no power play opportunities.
