Bismarck uses shootout to best Alexandria, 3-2 (2-0 SO)Runestone Community Center Fri, Mar 16, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Bismarck Bobcats defeated the Alexandria Blizzard in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO). The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. In addition to the clincher, Bismarck got a shootout goal from Daniel Zawacki.The Bobcats put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Alexandria to score on any of its four power plays. The Blizzard were unable to stop Bismarck from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bobcats eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. Bismarck was led by Adam Knochenmus, who finished with one goal and one assist. Knochenmus scored 16:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Bismarck. Francis DeAugustine picked up the assist. Donald Olivieri also scored for Bismarck. More assists for Bismarck came via Zawacki, who had two. Alexandria excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Blizzard failed to reach their usual level of shot production, putting 23 pucks on goal after averaging 28.8 shots per game this season. Alexandria was helped by Thomas Williams, who finished with one goal. Williams scored 19:14 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Tucker Coborn provided the assist. Alexandria also got a goal from Justin Moody as well. Other players who recorded assists for Alexandria were Aidan Cavallini, Craig Lindegard, and Seth Ronsberg, who each chipped in one. Tommy Burke rejected 21 shots on goal for the Bobcats. Bismarck incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Jacob Meyers recorded 30 saves for the Blizzard. Alexandria incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
