Odessa rolls over Wichita Falls, 6-1Ector County Coliseum Fri, Mar 16, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Odessa Jackalopes were firing on all cylinders against the Wichita Falls Wildcats, and when the final buzzer sounded Jackalopes emerged with a 6-1 win. Taylor Portner had a great game for Odessa, netting two goals. Portner scored on the power play at 6:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Odessa and again while 12:42 into the first to make the score 3-1 Odessa. The Jackalopes' Connor Hellebuyck was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. Hellebuyck managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.54 prior to the game. Odessa surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Jackalopes average 2.6 goals per contest. The 34 shots that Odessa put on net surpassed the Jackalopes' average of 22.1 shots per game this season. Odessa also got points from Tyler Minx, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Alex Ostrowski, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Josh Obregon, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Odessa also got a goal from Ryan Doucet as well. In addition, Odessa received assists from Jared Docken and Bryan Mitchell, who contributed one a piece and Lawrence Cornellier, Tyler Cayemberg, and Tyller Robert, who each chipped in two. With 32 shots on target during the contest, Wichita Falls exceeded the 23.9 shots it averages per game this year. The Wildcats were led by Patrick Yudez, who scored the team's only goal. Yudez scored 7:20 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Tyler Hope provided the assist. Odessa totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. Matt Leon made 18 saves before being replaced by Jo Jo Jeanetta, who took the loss and made 10 saves. Wichita Falls totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
