Fresno beats Alaska 4-3 after comeback scare

The Alaska Avalanche tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Fresno Monsters held on for a 4-3 victory.

Fresno took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Alaska storm back on a Joe Schmitz goal 11:06 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Monsters were led by Karl Andersen, who had one goal and one assist. Andersen scored short handed 7:47 into the third period to make the score Fresno. Fresno found itself down a man on Luke Sandler's hooking. Zack Wallace picked up the assist.

The Monsters put 23 shots on net during the contest, more than the 19.9 they average per game.

Fresno additionally got points from Mikhail Bushinski, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Kyle Buffardi also scored for Fresno. Other players who recorded assists for Fresno were Carl Witty, Mark Bittner, and Brendan Bradley, who each chipped in one.

The Avalanche excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

Alaska also got a goal from Evan Hesse as well. In addition, Alaska received assists from Mitch Kontny, Evan Janssen, Brandon Brossoit, Gage Christianson, Codey Hansen, and Jesse Kessler, who contributed one a piece.

Tomas Sholl rejected 25 shots on goal for Fresno. The Monsters incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Bodhi Engum recorded 19 saves for Alaska. The Avalanche incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
