The Corpus Christi IceRays relied on the scoring touch of Beau Walker, who netted two goals, to beat the New Mexico Mustangs, 5-2. Walker scored at 5:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Corpus Christi and again while 19:32 into the first to make the score 3-1 Corpus Christi.Corpus Christi excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The IceRays outdid their season average for goals scored. Corpus Christi has scored at the pace of 2.9 goals per game during the current campaign. The IceRays' defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 10 shots between them. Corpus Christi also got points from Payden Mielke, who also registered one goal and one assist and Eric Purcell, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Corpus Christi also got a goal from Joe Smereck as well. Other players who recorded assists for Corpus Christi were Greg Chapman, Perry DArrisso, Phil Pietroniro, and Zach Tatrn, who contributed one a piece and Jonathan Grebosky and Danny Fetzer, who each chipped in two. New Mexico put 29 shots on net during the contest, more than the 25.5 it averages per game. The Mustangs' defensemen played well offensively, producing two goals while racking up 14 shots. New Mexico was helped by Josh Bretner, who racked up one goal. Bretner scored 5:21 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Corpus Christi. Ryan Dau assisted on the tally. Cody Walsh also scored for New Mexico. More assists for New Mexico came via Nolan Culver and Eric Sade, who contributed one a piece. Anthony Stolarz recorded 27 saves for Corpus Christi. The IceRays incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Jake Stafford made 19 saves for the Mustangs on 24 shots. New Mexico incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
