Port Huron falls to Michigan after surprising comeback

The Michigan Warriors climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Port Huron Fighting Falcons, 5-4.

Michigan never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Warriors fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Port Huron's Rick DeRosa at 7:55 in the first period. Michigan knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Matus Matis at 17:00 in the third period. The Warriors scored the game winner at 19:38 in the third period on a goal by Matis.

James Kline had a great game for Michigan, netting two goals. Kline scored at 11:26 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Port Huron and again while 2:36 into the second to make the score 2-2.

The Warriors failed to reach their usual level of shot production, putting 19 pucks on goal after averaging 25.0 shots per game this season. Michigan's goal total was higher than its season average. The Warriors average 2.7 goals per game.

Chris Eckler also scored for Michigan. Other players who recorded assists for Michigan were Tyler Perpich, Martin Gruse, Sheldon Taylor, Michael Economos, Robert Mantha, and Bobby Bodette, who contributed one a piece.

The Fighting Falcons put 47 shots on net during the contest, more than the 31.5 they average per game.

Port Huron also got a goal from Kody Polin as well. More assists for Port Huron came via Jake Goldberg, Alex Globke, Maxwell Reavis, and Alex Archibald, who each chipped in one and Nolan Valleau and Ryan Teal, who contributed two a piece.

Brach Tiller recorded 43 saves for Michigan. The Warriors incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Peter Megariotis made 14 saves for Port Huron on 19 shots. The Fighting Falcons incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
