Bismarck blows out Alexandria, 6-1

The Bismarck Bobcats had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-1 win over the Alexandria Blizzard.

Bismarck's Tommy Burke was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 33 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Burke will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.43.

The Bobcats put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Alexandria to score on any of its eight power plays. Bismarck relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Bryce Schmitt, Donald Olivieri and Castan Sommer took 20 of the team's 39 shots. The Bobcats' defensemen played well offensively, producing four goals while racking up 16 shots.

Bismarck also got points from Danny Ray, who also had one goal and one assist. Bismarck also got a goal from Tyler Richter as well. Other players who recorded assists for Bismarck were John Furgele, who had three, Rory Vesel and Shane Omdahl, who each chipped in one, and Daniel Zawacki and Patrick Moore, who contributed two a piece.

The Blizzard could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Alexandria averages 3.5 goals per game. The Blizzard relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Tucker Coborn, Michael Mooney and Hayden Trupp took 20 of the team's 34 shots. Alexandria's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Blizzard finished with 24 penalty minutes.

Bismarck incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Jacob Meyers took the loss and made nine saves before being replaced by Jameson Shortreed who made 24 saves.
