Huge game by DeMarco boosts St. Louis over Granite City, 5-2

Jamie DeMarco was all over the ice for the St. Louis Jr. Blues, as he tallied two goals and one assist in St. Louis' 5-2 win over the Granite City Lumberjacks.

DeMarco scored at 7:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Louis and again while 4:02 into the third to make the score 3-2 St. Louis.

The Jr. Blues racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 14 minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. St. Louis surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. The Jr. Blues' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

St. Louis also got points from Adam Otten, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Johnny Mueller also scored for St. Louis. Other players who recorded assists for St. Louis were Bobby Brown, who had two and Mitchell Fernsler, Paul OConnor, Patrick Gregory, and Joe Bowler, who contributed one a piece.

Granite City was often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the Lumberjacks had been spending in the box. Granite City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. The Lumberjacks did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Granite City averages 4.1 goals per game. The Lumberjacks kept St. Louis' goalie busy throughout the game, and Fernsler made 38 saves on 40 shots. Granite City's defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. The Lumberjacks average 2.2 goals allowed per game.

Granite City was helped by Nathan Kohlenhoefer, who had one goal. Kohlenhoefer scored on the power play 15:36 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The Lumberjacks earned a power play opportunity when Jordan Deckard was put in the box for interference. Riley Bengtson assisted on the tally. Granite City also got a goal from Peter Lindblad as well. In addition, Granite City received assists from Nick LaRue, Tyler Stoller, and Blayne Ellson, who each chipped in one.

Matt Grove made 13 saves for Granite City on 17 shots. The Lumberjacks registered two goals on 10 power play opportunities.
