Quad City beats Chicago 7-1 as West gets hat trick

The Rivers Edge    Sat, Mar 10, 2012

TJ West netted a hat trick to lead the Quad City Jr. Flames over the Chicago Hitmen, 7-1.

West's first goal came 5:57 into the first period. He then added goals at 7:50 into the second and at 19:42 into the third.

The game was close after the first frame, but Quad City banged in four goals during the second period to put the victory out of reach for Chicago.

The Jr. Flames were led by goalie Tanner Jones, who finished with 33 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Jones will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.0.

The Quad City penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and three majors for 55 minutes in penalty time. The Jr. Flames surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. Quad City's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Chicago power plays. The Jr. Flames' goal total was higher than their season average. Quad City has scored at the pace of 2.7 goals per game during the current campaign.

Quad City also got a goal from Peter Coppola as well. In addition, Quad City received assists from Travis Walls, Cole Kapovich, and Corey Sikich, who contributed one a piece and Cole Chapman, Anthony Caroselli, Halen Sampson, and Jared Fielden, who each chipped in two.

The Hitmen were held below their usual level of production. Chicago puts an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. The Jr. Flames were unable to stop the Hitmen from sending pucks towards the net, and Chicago eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Quad City registered one goal on two power play opportunities. Brandon Perillo rejected 22 shots on goal for the Hitmen. Chicago ended with 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors and two majors.
