North Iowa beats Twin City 6-5 after comeback scare

The North Iowa Bulls survived a determined comeback attempt by the Twin City Steel on the way to a 6-5 win.

North Iowa made the score 6-3 on a goal by Nick Marsh at 8:55 in the third period, and Twin City got as close as 6-5 when Brandon Busse scored 11:45 into the third period.

Marsh had four goals and one assist to lead the Bulls. Marsh's first goal came 1:41 into the second period. He then added goals at 4:10 into the second and at 6:14 into the third.

North Iowa put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Steel to score on any of their three power plays. The Bulls' offense rang up 41 shots on Twin City's net. North Iowa surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Bulls average 3.6 goals per contest. The defensemen of North Iowa were also effective in the Steel's zone, and came away with two goals.

North Iowa also got points from Brian Harrison, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Tyler Torkelson also scored for North Iowa. More assists for North Iowa came via Connor Langfield, who had two and Eric Behrend, Andrew Halama, and Noah Anderson, who each chipped in one.

The Bulls were unable to stop Twin City from sending pucks towards the net, and the Steel eventually piled up 55 shots on goal.

Twin City was led by Davis Madren, who grabbed two goals. Madren scored the first of his two goals at 24 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-3. Tony Folk picked up the assist. Madren's next tally made the score 6-4 North Iowa with 11:05 left in the third period. Folk provided the assist. Twin City also got a goal from Sam Basich as well. In addition, Twin City received assists from Luke Vogelgesang, who had two and Colton Radtke, Nicholas Coltrain, and Marshall Klitzke, who contributed one a piece.

Jackson Steltmann made 50 saves for North Iowa on 55 shots. The Bulls incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Brock Vosburgh rejected 35 shots on goal for the Steel. Twin City incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
