Stoller lifts Granite City over Minnesota, 7-3

The Granite City Lumberjacks relied on the scoring touch of Tyler Stoller, who netted four goals, to beat the Minnesota Flying Aces, 7-3.

Stoller notched his first tally 2:36 into the first period. He then added goals at 11:24 into the second, at 4:47 into the third, and at 7:02 into the third.

The Granite City penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and two majors for 44 minutes in penalty time. The Lumberjacks surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Granite City forced Minnesota's goalies to work all game long, racking up 44 shots and forcing 37 saves. Allen Patten made 36 stops and Tyler Muehler made one. The Lumberjacks' goal total was higher than their season average. Granite City averages 4.2 goals per game.

Granite City also got points from Peter Lindblad, who also had one goal and five assists and Trevor Ness, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Nick Turbitt also scored for Granite City. Other players who recorded assists for Granite City were Nick LaRue, who had two and Matt Raiola, Aaron Azevedo, Riley Bengtson, and Zac Sikich, who each chipped in one.

The Flying Aces racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game Minnesota had been spending in the box.

The Flying Aces were helped by Liam Johnston, who finished with one goal. Johnston scored on the power play 7:16 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Granite City. Minnesota earned a power play opportunity when DJ Vold was put in the box for checking from behind. Alex Lindenman provided the assist. Minnesota also got a goal from Shota Niwa as well. More assists for Minnesota came via Stephen Langford, Owen Ahlstrom, and Blake Williams, who contributed one a piece.

Matt Grove rejected 21 shots on goal for the Lumberjacks. Granite City registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. Team's Vold and Sikich were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Flying Aces registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Minnesota ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Steve Wrzala was ejected from the game.
