Townsend lifts St. Louis over Twin City, 7-4

The St. Louis Jr. Blues relied on the scoring touch of Matt Townsend, who netted two goals, to beat the Twin City Steel, 7-4.

Townsend scored at 2:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Louis and again while 14:30 into the third to make the score 5-3 St. Louis.

St. Louis pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

The Jr. Blues' offense rang up 32 shots on Twin City's net. St. Louis surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Jr. Blues have scored at the pace of 4.2 goals per game during the current campaign.

St. Louis additionally got points from Trace Jablin, who also tallied two goals and one assist and Patrick Gregory, who also finished with one goal and one assist. St. Louis also got a goal from Johnny Mueller as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Louis were Philip Lux, who had three and Robert Hintz, Sam Turner, and Joe Bowler, who contributed one a piece.

St. Louis was unable to stop the Steel from sending pucks towards the net, and Twin City eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

The Steel were led by Luke Vogelgesang, who grabbed two goals. Vogelgesang scored the first of his two goals at 1:20 into the third period to make the score 4-2 St. Louis. Vogelgesang's next tally made the score 6-4 St. Louis with 2:41 left in the third period. Twin City had gotten the advantage when the Jr. Blues' Paul OConnor was sent off for roughing. Daniel Billiar provided the assist. Colton Radtke also scored for Twin City. In addition, Twin City received assists from Adam Slagle, Sam Basich, and Brady Peterson, who each chipped in one.

Mitchell Fernsler made 34 saves for St. Louis on 38 shots. The Jr. Blues registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Brock Vosburgh rejected 25 shots on goal for the Steel. Twin City incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
