Quad City falls to North Iowa after surprising comeback

The North Iowa Bulls climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Quad City Jr. Flames, 4-3.

North Iowa let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Bulls took a 3-2 advantage on a goal by Blake Malecha at 3:11 in the third period. North Iowa went down 2-0 after Quad City's Travis Walls put the puck home on the power play at 7:57 in the second period. After tying things up at 3-3 on a goal by Drake Fisher at 8:26 in the third, the Bulls got the game-winner from Kevin Loppatto at 16:24 in the third period.

North Iowa's offense rang up 31 shots on the Jr. Flames' net. The Bulls could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

North Iowa also got a goal from Brenden Giffel as well. In addition, North Iowa received assists from Tyler Torkelson and Joey Crespo, who contributed one a piece and Andrew Pitts and Nick Marsh, who each chipped in two.

Quad City kept North Iowa's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jackson Steltmann made 34 saves on 37 shots. The Jr. Flames were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 14 penalty minutes.

Quad City also got points from Luke McCarthy, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Quad City came via Tony Buchal and Jared Fielden, who contributed one a piece.

The Bulls registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Tanner Jones recorded 27 saves for Quad City. The Jr. Flames registered two goals on seven power play opportunities.
