Ellson's big game bests Quad City in 4-1 Granite City winArmadillo Deck Arena East Fri, Mar 02, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Granite City Lumberjacks' Blayne Ellson had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 4-1 win over the Quad City Jr. Flames. Ellson found the back of the net 12:33 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Granite City and again while on the power play 16:27 into the third to make the score 3-0 Granite City.Granite City forced Quad City goalie Michael Meadows to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. The Lumberjacks got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game. Granite City also got a goal from Nick LaRue as well. More assists for Granite City came via Nathan Kohlenhoefer, who had two and Isaac Hoagland, Tyler Stoller, and Brian Richert, who contributed one a piece. The Jr. Flames were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 16 penalty minutes. Ryan Ach also scored for Quad City. In addition, Quad City received assists from Luke McCarthy and Drake Fisher, who each chipped in one. Grant Holler recorded 28 saves for Granite City. The Lumberjacks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Meadows rejected 34 shots on goal for Quad City. The Jr. Flames registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
