Mike Baker had two goals and two assists to lead the Toledo Cherokee to a 5-0 victory over the Michigan Mountain Cats. Baker found the back of the net 8:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Toledo and again while 5:26 into the second to make the score 2-0 Toledo.Lukas Gavalier spearheaded the defensive effort for Toledo, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 25 saves for the shutout. Gavalier certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.14 entering the contest. The Cherokee put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Michigan to score on any of its three power plays. Toledo kept the Mountain Cats' goalie busy throughout the game, and Dylan Martin made 37 saves on 42 shots. Toledo additionally got points from Ryan Kelly, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, James Steele, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Baker, who also tallied two goals and two assists. Toledo got a goal from Austin Fletcher as well. Other players who recorded assists for Toledo were Charles Kingston, Donnie Nagle, Mareks Kepals, and Ryan Quigley, who each chipped in one. Michigan's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Toledo power plays. The Mountain Cats were held below their usual level of production. Michigan averages three goals per game. The Cherokee incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Mountain Cats incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
