Metro takes care of Pittsburgh early, wins 7-3Lakeland Rink1 Sun, Feb 26, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Metro Jets jumped out to a five-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Pittsburgh Jr. Penguins, 7-3. Mike MacKinnon had two goals and two assists to lead Metro. MacKinnon scored the first of his two goals at 1:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Metro. Steve Klisz provided the assist. MacKinnon's next tally made the score 7-3 Metro with 11:29 left in the third period. The Jets had gained a power play chance when Adam Steranko was whistled for elbowing. Klisz assisted on the tally. Metro forced Jr. Penguins' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, getting 37 shots and forcing 30 saves. Brennan Allen made 22 stops and Tyler Stepke made eight. The Jets found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Metro averages four goals per contest. The Jets could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Jake Schlacht, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Metro also got points from MacKinnon, who also registered two goals and two assists, Klisz, who also tallied one goal and three assists, Trevor Bardallis, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Doug Andrews, who also had one goal and one assist. Cameron Bazin also scored for Metro. Other players who recorded assists for Metro were Josh Beleski, who had one, Tommy Kilgore, who had two, and Matt Stirling, who had three. Pittsburgh was helped by Nico Vecchio, who grabbed one goal. Vecchio scored 18:29 into the second period to make the score 6-2 Metro. Jesse Grossman provided the assist. Pittsburgh got a goal from Nicholas Randazzo as well. More assists for Pittsburgh came via Alex Berardinelli, who had two. Dillon Kelley recorded 17 saves for Metro. The Jets registered one goal on two power play opportunities. The Jr. Penguins incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
