Metro rips Pittsburgh, 5-1Lakeland Rink1 Sat, Feb 25, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Metro Jets had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Pittsburgh Jr. Penguins. Cameron Bazin had one goal and two assists to lead Metro. Bazin scored 10:41 into the third period to make the score 4-1 Metro. Mike MacKinnon provided the assist. The referees were busy during the game, as 16 penalties were assessed during the course of the contest. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:40 into the third period. Three fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Jets racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Metro surpassed its season average of 21 penalty minutes per game. Metro also got points from Bazin, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and MacKinnon, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Metro got a goal from Tommy Kilgore as well. In addition, Metro received assists from Chris Hellebuyck, Zach Schlacht, Steve Klisz, Matt Stirling, Jake Schlacht, Josh Beleski, and Trevor Bardallis, who contributed one each. Pittsburgh forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The Jr. Penguins had been averaging 16 minutes in penalties per game. Pittsburgh's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Metro power plays. The Jr. Penguins' offense operated below they season average. Pittsburgh puts an average of three pucks into the net per game. The Jr. Penguins were led by Ryan McAloon, who scored the team's only goal. McAloon scored on the power play 6:29 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Metro. Pittsburgh had taken the advantage when the Jets' Dillon Kelley got sent off for delay of game. Brooks Roth assisted on the tally. Kelley turned away 18 pucks between the pipes for Metro. The Jr. Penguins' Sean Keating stopped 24 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Pittsburgh registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Jr. Penguins ran into disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alexander Lysyuk was ejected from the game.
