St. Louis uses fast start to beat Peoria, 8-2

The St. Louis Jr. Blues opened up a four-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to an 8-2 over the Peoria Mustangs.

St. Louis was paced by Tyler Opilka, who registered one goal and one assist. Opilka scored 11:02 into the first period to make the score 3-1 St. Louis.

The Jr. Blues made Peoria's goalies to work in net, launching 45 shots and forcing 37 saves. Michael Czupryn made eight stops and Michael Parda made 29. St. Louis outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Jr. Blues average four goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

St. Louis also got points from Paul OConnor, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Johnny Mueller, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Sam Turner, who also had one goal and one assist, and Opilka, who also registered one goal and one assist. St. Louis got a goal from Philip Lux as well. More assists for St. Louis came via Marek Tonhauser and Joe Bowler, who contributed one each and Robert Hintz and Patrick Gregory, who each chipped in two.

The Mustangs were helped by Michael Mikulan, who finished with one goal. Mikulan scored 18:29 into the second period to make the score 5-2 St. Louis. Nikolas Sakellaropoulos assisted on the tally. Josh Wentz also scored for Peoria. Other players who recorded assists for Peoria were Cameron Brown and Byron Lomow, who contributed one each.

Clint Steinmeyer made 18 saves for St. Louis on 20 shots. The Jr. Blues incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors and had no power play opportunities. Peoria incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
