Flint blows out Michigan, 4-1Troy Sports 2 Tue, Feb 21, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Flint Jr. Generals had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 4-1 win over the Michigan Mountain Cats. Flint pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 12 penalty minutes. The Jr. Generals were sparked by Andrew Lay, who racked up one goal. Lay scored 16:53 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Flint. Derek Compeau picked up the assist. Flint kept Michigan's goalie busy throughout the game, and Schuyler Ferguson made 47 saves on 51 shots. Flint got a goal from Richard Jansson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Flint were Nicholas Goettel, Joshua Kestner, Cody Damon, Jacob Bearss, and Warren Carter, who contributed one each. The Mountain Cats did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Michigan puts an average of three pucks into the net per game. The Mountain Cats were led by James Koonce, who scored the team's only goal. Koonce scored on the power play 16:11 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Michigan had gotten the advantage when the Jr. Generals' Lucas McDiarimid was sent off for cross checking. Zachary Collins assisted on the tally. Benjamin Myers turned away 21 pucks between the pipes for Flint. The Jr. Generals registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Mountain Cats incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
