Chicago survives St. Louis comeback, wins 4-2

The Chicago Hitmen survived a determined comeback attempt by the St. Louis Jr. Blues on the way to a 4-2 win.

Chicago made the score 4-1 on a goal by Kyle Gonzalez at 2:54 in the third period, and St. Louis got as close as 4-2 when Trace Jablin scored 6:10 into the third period.

The Hitmen were led by Jeff Salzbrunn, who racked up one goal. Salzbrunn scored 18:52 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Chicago. Luc Fournier picked up the assist.

Chicago excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Chicago additionally got points from Collin Warner, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Chicago got a goal from Mike Lozano as well. More assists for Chicago came via Jeremy Edwards, Nick Gnagni, and Josh Baker, who contributed one each.

The Jr. Blues stifled the Hitmen's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. St. Louis could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Jr. Blues put an average of four pucks into the net per game.

St. Louis was helped by Ryan Basgall, who had one goal. Basgall scored 6:59 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Matt Townsend assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for St. Louis were Marek Tonhauser, who had one.

Chicago's Joe Olen stopped 26 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Hitmen incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Mitchell Fernsler made 22 saves for the Jr. Blues on 26 shots. St. Louis incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
