Cleveland stifles Pittsburgh's comeback, gains 7-5 victory

The Pittsburgh Jr. Penguins almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks managed to pull out a 7-5 win in the end.

Cleveland led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Jr. Lumberjacks' David Fassbender's scored at 1:43 in the second period to put Cleveland up 4-1.

With four goals and one assist between them, Jeff Monfils and Kyle Fink teamed up to power the Jr. Lumberjacks' offense. Monfils racked up two goals and Fink also added two goals and one assist.

Cleveland bested its season scoring average. The Jr. Lumberjacks average 4.8 goals per game. Cleveland's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Jr. Lumberjacks are averaging 2.5 goals against for the season.

Cleveland additionally got points from Cameron Dimmitt, who also registered one goal and two assists and Fred West, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Cleveland were Kyle Janozik, who had one, Steve Lecey, who had two, and Andrew Mitch, who had three.

Cleveland was unable to stop Pittsburgh from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr. Penguins eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Pittsburgh was helped by Nicholas Randazzo, who had two goals. Randazzo scored the first of his two goals at 2:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pittsburgh. Randazzo's next tally made the score 4-2 Cleveland with 14:42 left in the second period. A roughing penalty on Monfils had put the Jr. Penguins on the power play. Michael Straub picked up the assist. Pittsburgh also got points from Bryan Hovanec, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Nico Vecchio, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Pittsburgh also got a goal from Alex Berardinelli as well. In addition, Pittsburgh received assists from Richie Hill and Hunter Brett, who contributed one a piece.

The Jr. Lumberjacks' Alexander Larson stopped 33 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Cleveland incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors and had no power play opportunities. Reid Daniels made 11 saves before being replaced by Brennan Allen, who took the loss and made five saves. Pittsburgh ended with no penalties and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
