Toledo uses shootout to best Quad City, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Mike Baker scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Toledo Cherokee picked up the extra point in a 4-3 (2-1 SO) win over the Quad City Jr. Flames.

The shootout lasted for 14 attempts between the teams. Quad City's shootout goal was scored by Drake Fisher. In addition to the clincher, Toledo got a shootout goal from Austin Fletcher.

The Cherokee saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Toledo made the score 3-0 on a goal by Gary Neill at 5:18 in the second period. The Jr. Flames evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Jared Fielden at 18:30 in the third period.

The Cherokee pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 26 penalty minutes.

Toledo put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Quad City to score on any of its six power plays. The Cherokee forced the Jr. Flames goalie Michael Meadows to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Toledo was led by Fletcher, who tallied one goal and one assist. Fletcher scored 17:02 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Toledo. Donnie Nagle assisted on the tally. Joe Skrzynski also scored for Toledo. More assists for Toledo came via Derek Britton, who had one.

Quad City's offense rang up 43 shots on the Cherokee's net.

Quad City also got points from Fisher, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Quad City also got a goal from Corey Sikich as well. In addition, Quad City received assists from Peter Coppola, Luke McCarthy, and Cole Kapovich, who contributed one a piece.

Austyn Roudebush recorded 40 saves for Toledo. The Cherokee registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. The Jr. Flames' Meadows stopped 30 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Quad City incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
