Wichita Falls squeaks by New Mexico, 4-3Kay Yeager Coliseum Sat, Feb 25, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wichita Falls Wildcats gutted out a close 4-3 win against the New Mexico Mustangs. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Renato Engler secured the win for Wichita Falls with a goal in the third period. The Wildcats were led by Engler, who registered one goal and one assist. Engler scored on the power play 19:41 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Wichita Falls. Wichita Falls had gotten the advantage when New Mexico's Ryan Dau was sent off for high sticking. Brennen Parker assisted on the tally. With 41 shots on target during the contest, the Wildcats exceeded the 21 shots they average per game this year. Wichita Falls also got points from Engler, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Wichita Falls got a goal from Zach Pochiro as well. More assists for Wichita Falls came via Tucker Poolman, who had two and Tyler Hope, Nick Szopinski, and Jason Eddy, who each chipped in one. Wichita Falls was unable to stop the Mustangs from sending pucks towards the net, and New Mexico eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The Mustangs were helped by Adam Chapie, who grabbed one goal. Chapie scored 1:03 into the first period to make the score 1-0 New Mexico. Josh Bretner picked up the assist. Cody Walsh also scored for New Mexico. Other players who recorded assists for New Mexico were Evan Johnston, Jimmy Peplinski, and Eric Sade, who contributed one each. Jo Jo Jeanetta recorded 29 saves for the Wildcats. Wichita Falls incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. New Mexico's Jake Stafford stopped 37 shots out of the 41 that he faced. The Mustangs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
