Coulee Region rolls over Chicago, 6-2

The Coulee Region Chill had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-2 win over the Chicago Hitmen.

The referees were busy during the game, as 14 penalties were assessed during the course of the contest.

Coulee Region was led by Mac Jansen, who had one goal and one assist. Jansen scored on the power play 5:01 into the second period to make the score 3-0 Coulee Region. The Chill had taken the advantage when Chicago's Eric Szafranski got sent off for high sticking. Jake Useldinger assisted on the tally.

Coulee Region put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Hitmen to score on any of their four power plays. The Chill bested their season scoring average. This season, Coulee Region averages two goals per contest. The Chill put 44 shots on net during the contest, more than the 28 they average per game.

Coulee Region also got points from Patrick Steinhauser, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Useldinger, who also registered one goal and one assist. Coulee Region got a goal from Tommy Miller as well. In addition, Coulee Region received assists from Matt Blomquist, who had two and Adam Thomas, David Ripple, Ben Jaremko, Chris Hughes, Myles Maltz, and Micah Ranum, who each chipped in one.

Chicago got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed one goal during the game. With 41 shots on target during the contest, the Hitmen exceeded the 25 shots they average per game this year. Chicago was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 14 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Mike Fazio, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors.

The Hitmen were helped by Matt Cessna, who finished with one goal. Cessna scored 16:43 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Coulee Region. Sean Reynolds picked up the assist. Andrew Paras also scored for Chicago. Other players who recorded assists for Chicago were David Gandara, who had one.

David Heflin recorded 39 saves for Coulee Region. The Chill incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Chicago's Nick Kohn stopped 38 shots out of the 44 that he faced.
