Smiths Falls penalty kill dominates in 6-2 defeat of Kanata

The Smiths Falls Bears, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Kanata Stallions' power play opportunities and emerged with a 6-2 victory.

Smiths Falls was paced by Dean Galasso, who grabbed one goal. Galasso scored 2:28 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Smiths Falls. Michael Buonincontri provided the assist.

The Bears' offense rang up 36 shots on Kanata's net. Smiths Falls outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Bears average 3.5 goals per contest.

Smiths Falls additionally got points from Chris Maniccia, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Matt Robertson, who also had one goal and one assist. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Robbie Hall as well. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Jesse Blais, who had two and Cole Allard and Connor McLaren, who each chipped in one.

The Stallions forced Smiths Falls goalie Mackenzie Sawyer to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Kanata was helped by Joe Breslin, who finished with one goal. Breslin scored on the power play 3:28 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Stallions earned a power play opportunity when Sawyer was put in the box for delay of game. Phillip Nasca assisted on the tally. Derian Plouffe also scored for Kanata. Other players who recorded assists for Kanata were Tim Kavanaugh, who had one.

Mackenzie Sawyer made 34 saves for the Bears on 36 shots. Smiths Falls incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Brandon Lane rejected 30 shots on goal for Kanata. The Stallions incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
