Brockville survives Nepean comeback, wins 4-2Brockville Memorial Centre Fri, Mar 09, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Brockville Braves survived a determined comeback attempt by the Nepean Raiders on the way to a 4-2 win. A goal by David Roy put Brockville up 4-1 in the second period, but Nepean pulled to within two on Craig Cowie's tally 10:32 into the third period. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:57 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The the Braves penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game Brockville had been spending in the box. The Braves were helped by Kenny Matheson, who tallied one goal. Matheson scored 17:20 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Brockville. Sebastien Gingras provided the assist. Brockville also got a goal from Ben Blasko as well. In addition, Brockville received assists from Mike DeBello, Zach Todd, David Ferreira, Mike Skakum, and Matt Chartrain, who contributed one a piece. The Raiders racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. Nepean surpassed its season average of 12.0 penalty minutes per game. The Raiders' offense operated below they season average. Nepean puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. Dalen Hedges also scored for Nepean. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Ryan Johnston, Shaun Altshuller, Ryan MacLean, and Brent Norris, who each chipped in one. Andrew Pikul recorded 25 saves for Brockville. The Braves registered one goal on two power play opportunities. Team's Skakum and Hayden Hulton were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Raiders' Matt Zawadzki stopped 24 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Nepean registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For the Raiders, Michael Vered was ejected from the game.
