Hawkesbury holds on for 4-3 win against Cumberland

The Cumberland Grads tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Hawkesbury Hawks held on for a 4-3 victory.

Hawkesbury took a 4-1 lead during the second period, only to have Cumberland storm back on a Sean Bamford goal 4:52 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as Hawkesbury gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Hawks forced the Grads goalie Robin Billingham to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Hawkesbury could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Hawks were helped by Brandon Bussey, who racked up one goal. Bussey scored 9:26 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Antonio Roumeliotis picked up the assist. Hawkesbury additionally got points from Stephen Hrehoriak, who also had one goal and one assist. Hawkesbury also got a goal from Yanik Laliberte as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hawkesbury were Francis Landers, Sebastian Meltzer, Remi Elie, Carl Faucher, Brett Costello, and Stefano Momesso, who contributed one a piece.

Cumberland's offense rang up 43 shots on Hawkesbury's net.

The Grads were helped by Mitch Allen, who grabbed one goal. Allen scored 2:12 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Hawkesbury. Marc Beckstead assisted on the tally. Eric Clitsome also scored for Cumberland. More assists for Cumberland came via Daniel Walsh, Manasie Kendall, and Zach Rodier, who each chipped in one.

Carmine Guerriero recorded 40 saves for the Hawks. Hawkesbury registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Robin Billingham made 30 saves for Cumberland on 34 shots. The Grads incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
