Ottawa's Rice deadly on offense in 10-3 win against Gloucester

Devon Rice had five goals to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 10-3 victory over the Gloucester Rangers.

Rice notched his first tally 15:38 into the first period. He then added goals at 8:21 into the second, at 16:58 into the second, at 51 seconds into the third, and at 8:14 into the third.

Ottawa managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Senators wound up below its season average of 20 penalty minutes per game. Ottawa kept Gloucester's goalie busy throughout the game, and Gunner Rivers made 45 saves on 55 shots. The Senators outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Ottawa averages three goals per contest. The Senators got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Ottawa additionally got points from Max Fiedler, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Thierry Gibeault, who also registered one goal and two assists. Ottawa also had goals scored by Christian Leger, who had one and Joe Shecter, who had two. More assists for Ottawa came via Drew Anderson, who had five and Liam Burtt, Mathieu Desautels, Josh Pitt, and Dylan Giberson, who each chipped in two.

The Rangers were led by Travis Meyer, who tallied one goal and one assist. Meyer scored 19:23 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Ottawa. Mathieu White assisted on the tally. Gloucester also got points from Meyer, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Gloucester got a goal from Michael McMurtry as well. Other players who recorded assists for Gloucester were Mike Martin, Eric Witzel, Fred Poirier, and John Owen Stewart, who contributed one each.

Ed Zdolshek made 18 saves for Ottawa on 21 shots. The Senators registered three goals on six power play opportunities. Gloucester incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
