Spink nets hat trick, leads Cornwall to 6-4 win over OttawaEd Lumley Arena Tue, Feb 21, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Ottawa Senators could not stop the Cornwall Colts' Tyson Spink, who tallied a hat trick in a 6-4 win. Spink got on the scoresheet 48 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 12:19 into the second and at 19:22 into the third.Cornwall led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Colts' Roman Ammirato's scored at 19:11 in the first period to put Cornwall up 4-1. The Colts forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16 minutes per game Cornwall had been spending in the box. The Colts found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Cornwall averages three goals per game. Cornwall also got points from Ammirato, who also registered two goals and one assist and Spink, who also grabbed three goals and one assist. Connor Primeau also scored for Cornwall. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Tylor Spink, who had four and Stephen Johnson, Kyle Baun, and Michael Borkowski, who each chipped in one. Ottawa's offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 38 shots put on the Colts' net. The Senators were helped by Josh Pitt, who registered one goal and one assist. Pitt scored on the power play 19:25 into the second period to make the score 5-4 Cornwall. Ottawa had taken the advantage when Cornwall's Mark Hough got sent off for cross checking. Devon Rice provided the assist. Ottawa additionally got points from Kevin Ryder, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Pitt, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Ottawa got a goal from Mathieu Desautels as well. More assists for Ottawa came via Liam Burtt, Deric Boudreau, Conor Brown, and Ben Robillard, who contributed one each. Matt Jenkins recorded 34 saves for the Colts. Cornwall registered two goals on five power play opportunities. For the Colts, Marly Quince was ejected from the game. The Senators took out Ed Zdolshek after he had made two saves and installed Charlie Millen in goal, where he finished with 12 saves and the loss. Ottawa totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 3-for-7 on the power play. The Senators ran into disciplinary problems during the contest, and Max Fiedler was ejected from the game.
