Kanata uses early goal to top Smiths Falls, 2-1

The Kanata Stallions took the lead against the Smiths Falls Bears in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-1 victory.

Brent Bisdee provided Kanata with the game-winning tally when he scored 11:41 into the the first period. Ryan Donnelly picked up the assist.

Smiths Falls was stymied by the Stallions netminder Brandon Lane, who stopped 39 shots during the victory. The solid play of Lane will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.33.

Kanata was led by Bisdee, who registered one goal.

The Stallions were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 17 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Joe Breslin, who totaled five minutes in penalty time with one major.

The Bears' offense operated below they season average. Smiths Falls averages three goals per game. The Bears forced Kanata goalie Lane to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

Kanata got a goal from Devin Cobbold as well. In addition, Kanata received assists from Fabian Walsh, Phillip Nasca, and Brandon Petrie, who each chipped in one.

Smiths Falls was led by Robbie Hall, who scored the team's only goal. Hall scored on the power play 3:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls. The Bears had taken the advantage when the Stallions' Petrie got sent off for interference. Tyler Akeson provided the assist.

Kanata registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Stallions ran into disciplinary problems during the contest, and Breslin was ejected from the game. The Bears' starting goalie, Mackenzie Sawyer, made six saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Laine Parent, who stopped 12 shots. Smiths Falls totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For the Bears, Nolan Trombetta was ejected from the game.

Smiths Falls ran into disciplinary problems during the contest, and Trombetta was ejected from the game. For Kanata, Breslin was ejected from the game.
