Nepean hangs on, beats Pembroke 3-2Pembroke Memorial Center Fri, Feb 17, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Nepean Raiders took the lead against the Pembroke Lumber Kings in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-2 victory. A goal 12:51 into the the first period by Kenneth Neil proved to be the game winner, and powered Nepean to the victory The Raiders had taken the advantage when Pembroke's Brendan Mcguire got sent off for too many men. Dalen Hedges assisted on the tally.Nepean forced the Lumber Kings goalie Francis Dupuis to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Raiders could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Michael Vered, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Nepean was helped by Ben Hutton, who grabbed one goal. Hutton scored 13:28 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Nepean. Nepean additionally got points from Hedges, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Nepean received assists from Ryan Johnston, Ryan MacLean, and Craig Cowie, who each chipped in one. Pembroke kept the Raiders' goalie busy throughout the game, and Dylan BrindAmour made 31 saves on 33 shots. The Lumber Kings were led by Tyler Gaudet, who finished with one goal and one assist. Gaudet scored on the power play 2:45 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Nepean. An interference penalty on Bryce Twa had put Pembroke on the power play. Geoff Gallagher provided the assist. Pembroke got a goal from Trevor Packard as well. Other players who recorded assists for Pembroke were Evan De Haan and Brandon Gagne, who contributed one each. Nepean registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Dupuis turned away 30 pucks between the pipes for the Lumber Kings. Pembroke incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
