Hawkesbury hangs on, beats Gloucester 3-1

Brett Costello gave the Hawkesbury Hawks the lead in the first period, and the Gloucester Rangers was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1.

Hawkesbury took over the lead for good with a goal by Costello at 1:36 in the first period. The Hawks earned a power play opportunity when Eric Witzel was put in the box for boarding. Sebastian Meltzer picked up the assist.

Hawkesbury was led by goalie Michael Comitini, who finished with 36 saves while allowing one goal. Comitini certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.0 entering the contest.

The Hawks were paced by Remi Elie, who tallied one goal. Elie scored 7:25 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Hawkesbury. Sebastien Lavoie assisted on the tally.

Hawkesbury excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Hawks kept Gloucester's goalie busy throughout the game, and Sebastian Gratton made 38 saves on 41 shots.

Hawkesbury got a goal from Carl Faucher as well. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Philippe Saviuk, Stephen Hrehoriak, Yanik Laliberte, and Anthony Sanniti, who each chipped in one.

The Rangers' offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 37 shots put on Hawkesbury's net.

Gloucester was led by Alexandre Boivin, who scored the team's only goal. Boivin scored 14:42 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hawkesbury. Chad Millett provided the assist.

The Hawks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Rangers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
