Wenatchee rolls over Fresno, 6-2Town Toyota Center Sat, Mar 19, 2011 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fresno Monsters had trouble finding ways to stop the Wenatchee Wild, which beat Monsters, 6-2. Shawn Pauly was all over the ice for Wenatchee, as he racked up two goals in the win. Pauly's tallies came at 38 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wenatchee and 2:54 into the third to make the score 5-1 Wenatchee. The Wild forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Wenatchee had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Wild bested their season scoring average. This season, Wenatchee averages 3.6 goals per contest. Wenatchee also got points from Mario Puskarich, who also registered one goal and one assist. Wenatchee also had goals scored by Matt Cope, who had one and Ben Carey, who had two. More assists for Wenatchee came via Tyler Hope, who had two and Kyle Huson, Michael Di Puma, Hunter Brown, DJ Vandercook, Jacob Barber, Bradley Shumway, Gage Christianson, Carl-Johan Sjogren, and Cody Von Rueden, who contributed one a piece. Fresno racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 28.0 minutes per game the Monsters had been spending in the box. Fresno excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Monsters were led by Johan Bjorklund, who had two goals. Bjorklund scored the first of his two goals at 2:12 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jordan Lovick assisted on the tally. Bjorklund's next tally made the score 6-2 Wenatchee with 2:18 left in the third period. Brett Blomgren picked up the assist. Greg Lewis took the win and made 17 saves before being replaced by Brandon Jaeger who made zero saves. Fresno's starting goalie, Luis Puig, made four saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Tom Conlin, who stopped 12 shots. The Monsters registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
