Wenatchee holds on for 5-3 win against FairbanksBig Dipper Ice Arena Sat, Mar 12, 2011 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fairbanks Ice Dogs tried to dig themselves out of a five-goal hole, but the Wenatchee Wild held on for a 5-3 victory. Wenatchee made the score 5-0 on a goal by DJ Vandercook at 7:16 in the third period, and Fairbanks got as close as 5-3 when Jared Linnell scored 14:37 into the third period. Carl-Johan Sjogren had a great game for the Wild, netting two goals. Sjogren found the back of the net on the power play 5:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wenatchee and again while on the power play 17:31 into the first to make the score 2-0 Wenatchee. Wenatchee cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring two goals on three chances. Evan Schmidbauer also scored for Wenatchee. In addition, Wenatchee received assists from Kyle Huson, Brennen Parker, Blake Saylor, and Ben Carey, who contributed one a piece and Mario Puskarich and Max McHugh, who each chipped in two. The Wild were unable to stop the Ice Dogs from sending pucks towards the net, and Fairbanks eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Fairbanks also got a goal from JT Osborn as well. More assists for Fairbanks came via Brandon Carlson, Gabe Levin, Tayler Munson, Charlie Thauwald, and John Stampohar, who contributed one a piece. Brandon Jaeger made 29 saves for Wenatchee on 32 shots. The Wild incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Joe Phillippi took the loss and made 10 saves before being replaced by Steve Perry who made 11 saves. The Ice Dogs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
