Kenai River uses early goal to top Wenatchee, 3-1

The Kenai River Brown Bears took the lead against the Wenatchee Wild in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-1 victory.

Kenai River took over the lead for good with a goal by Brad Duwe at 14:41 in the first period. The Brown Bears had gained a power play chance when DJ Vandercook was whistled for checking from behind. Brett Lubanski assisted on the tally.

Kenai River's Mathias Dahlstrom was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 40 saves and let only one puck past him. Dahlstrom certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.88 entering the contest.

The Brown Bears were led by Duwe, who had one goal.

Kenai River excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Kyle Keenan also scored for Kenai River. In addition, Kenai River received assists from Doug Beck, Jesse Ramsey, Dominic Granato, and Sean Muller, who contributed one a piece.

Wenatchee managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Wild wound up below its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Wenatchee was held below its usual level of production. The Wild put an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game. The Brown Bears were unable to stop Wenatchee from sending pucks towards the net, and the Wild eventually piled up 41 shots on goal.

Wenatchee was led by Ben Carey, who scored the team's only goal. Carey scored 10:20 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Tyler Hope picked up the assist.

Kenai River incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Greg Lewis rejected 19 shots on goal for the Wild.
