Wenatchee rips Fresno, 6-0Selland Arena Thu, Feb 10, 2011 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wenatchee Wild had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-0 win over the Fresno Monsters. Wenatchee pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 22 penalty minutes. The Wild were led by Blake Saylor, who finished with one goal and one assist. Saylor scored 10:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wenatchee. Jacob Barber picked up the assist. Wenatchee put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Fresno to score on any of its six power plays. The Wild's defensive play was more effective than usual against the Monsters. Wenatchee gives up 2.6 goals on average per game. The Wild outdid their season average for goals scored. Wenatchee averages 3.6 goals per game. By firing 43 shots on goal, the Wild exceeded the 30.8 shots they average per game this year. Wenatchee additionally got points from Tyler Hope, who also registered one goal and one assist. Wenatchee also got a goal from DJ Vandercook as well. More assists for Wenatchee came via Michael Di Puma, Shawn Pauly, Bradley Shumway, Chris Rumble, Ben Carey, Carl-Johan Sjogren, and Cody Von Rueden, who each chipped in one. The Fresno penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 28.0 minutes per game the Monsters had been spending in the box. Fresno's offense operated below it season average. The Monsters average 2.7 goals per game. The defense for Fresno played an important role offensively, racking up nine shots on goal. The Monsters were led by Mike Cox, who took three shots. Brandon Jaeger rejected 19 shots on goal for Wenatchee. The Wild registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Luis Puig recorded 37 saves for Fresno.
