Alaska wins tough contest against Wenatchee, 3-2Town Toyota Center Sat, Feb 05, 2011 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Alaska Avalanche escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Wenatchee Wild. Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Matt Friese's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Friese was all over the ice for Alaska, as he tallied two goals in the win. The Avalanche's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Wenatchee power plays. Daniel Senkbeil also scored for Alaska. In addition, Alaska received assists from Jake Williams, who had two and Nick Kulmanovsky, Zach Smith, and Blake Huppert, who contributed one a piece. Wenatchee excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Wild were helped by Jacob Barber, who racked up one goal. Barber scored 16:08 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Michael Di Puma picked up the assist. Wenatchee also got a goal from Shawn Pauly as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wenatchee were DJ Vandercook, Chris Rumble, and Cody Von Rueden, who each chipped in one. Alaska's starting goalie, Nick Kulmanovsky, made 26 saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Landon Peterson, who stopped one shot. The Avalanche incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Greg Lewis rejected 25 shots on goal for Wenatchee. The Wild incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
