Amarillo rolls over New Mexico, 8-2

The New Mexico Mustangs had trouble finding ways to stop the Amarillo Bulls, which beat Mustangs, 8-2.

Cody Freeman was all over the ice for Amarillo, as he tallied one goal and three assists in the win. Freeman scored 3:08 into the third period to make the score 7-2 Amarillo. Mike Erickson picked up the assist.

The Bulls' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three New Mexico power plays. Amarillo found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Bulls average 3.6 goals per game. The defensemen of Amarillo were also effective in New Mexico's zone, and came away with three goals. The Bulls put 43 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.5 they average per game.

Amarillo also got points from Derek Hills, who also grabbed two goals and one assist and Matt Johnson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Amarillo also got a goal from Travis Hill as well. In addition, Amarillo received assists from Dan McDougall, who had one and Mitch Rogge, TJ Sarcona, and Zack Smoot, who each chipped in two.

The Mustangs forced Amarillo goalie Nikifor Szczerba to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

New Mexico was led by Kevin OConnor, who tallied one goal. OConnor scored 5:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 New Mexico. Diego Breckenridge provided the assist. Jimmy Peplinski also scored for New Mexico. Other players who recorded assists for New Mexico were Nick Brill, James Poston, and Adam Chapie, who contributed one a piece.

Szczerba rejected 38 shots on goal for the Bulls. Amarillo incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Zachery Cisek took the loss and made 10 saves before being replaced by Matt Madore who made 25 saves. The Mustangs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
