Tim Vitek netted a hat trick to lead the Knoxville Ice Bears over the Louisiana IceGators, 10-4. Vitek's first goal came 16:57 into the first period. He then added goals at 6:01 into the second and at 11:48 into the second.Louisiana's 13 penalties came back to haunt it, as the IceGators let up four goals while on the penalty kill. Knoxville surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Ice Bears have scored at the pace of 4.1 goals per game during the current campaign. Knoxville put 37 shots on net during the contest, more than the 31.2 it averages per game. Knoxville additionally got points from Frank Furdero, who also grabbed three goals and one assist, B.J. Pelkey, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Randy Johnston, who also racked up one goal and three assists. Knoxville also got a goal from Jim Jensen as well. More assists for Knoxville came via Rich Zalewski, who had three, Kevin Swider, who had five, Chris Brannen and Travis Hanson, who each chipped in one, and Mark Van Vliet and Travis Martell, who contributed two a piece. Louisiana was often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and four majors for 128 minutes in penalty time. The IceGators surpassed its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game. Louisiana relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Matt Ruberto, Dean Moore and Josh Bonar took 10 of the team's 19 shots. The IceGators' defensemen bolstered Louisiana's offensive attack, as they bombarded Dan Earles with nine shots. The IceGators were helped by Cam Lilley, who finished with two goals. Lilley scored the first of his two goals at 3:25 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Knoxville. Paul McBrien assisted on the tally. Lilley's next tally made the score 6-4 Knoxville with 5:33 left in the second period. Louisiana also got points from Erik Kent, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Bonar, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Mike Ruberto, who had two. Earles rejected 15 shots on goal for the Ice Bears. Knoxville incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Louisiana's A J Bucchino stopped 27 shots out of the 37 that he faced. The IceGators registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For Louisiana, Moore, Jason Hamilton, McBrien, Ruberto, Lester Barras, and Tobias Carlsson were ejected from the contest.
