Game Notes |
If you stayed around on Friday night for the late game you would have had a great opportunity to scout the special teams units of both these teams. Penalties, arguments and yelling at the ref were the themes of this battle that saw almost as many penalties as goals. The penalty parade was led by Dennis the latest addition to the BBHA sub list. However just because Dennis took 3 penalties (2 interference, 1 body contact) in his first BBHA game of the season doesn’t mean he is pure goon. No Sir. Dennis showed flashes of offensive and defensive genius and also got on the score sheet with a few apples in this one helping the Rockies build an early first half lead of 2-1. Both Rockies goals were scored on power plays with Rego banging away to get the first and Merritt hammering home the second. Kowalski had the only reply for the Arenas.
The second half saw the game and the penalty box door continue to open up with the Arenas getting a few power play opportunities of their own. While their first 4 power play attempts looked terrible the Arenas did get a late power play goal to go a respectful 1-5 on the PP for the evening. Luckily when not on the PP the arenas had no problems popping in a another 7 second half goals led by usual suspects Gazz, TWW and of course Melissa Morton who registered her first of the season on a beauty tip in after being stoned time and time again by opposing goaltenders. After the game Melissa commented that it was nice to finally get the monkey of her back and she feels the goals will flow like wine from here on in. The Rockies didn’t seem to do much to reply as their second half shot total was only 14 shots ( I question the legitimacy of these stats), however they did manage 4 goals out of those shots to make the final Arenas 9 Rockies 6.
Becks 3 Stars
1st Star – Melissa Morton – 1st goal of the season!
2nd Star – Wash with a 6 point night
3rd Star – Merrit with 3 goals and a few apples.
