Game Notes |
The second game of the night featured the Flames and Seals also both in search of wins before the Christmas break. The missing players for the Seals were Rich Campbell, Andre Labonte and Ryan Wilson. The Flames were „captainless‟ as Captain Critchley and Captain Gernant were out of the line-up. Filling in for the Flames was J.F. Talbot and for the Seals Scott Campbell and Shaun Robbie.
Shaun Robbie was making his highly anticipated return to the BBHA after recently completing his year and a half suspension dating back to the 2010 BBHA Finals for what is now known in BBHA folklore as “The Incident”.
The first half ended with the Seals being up 4-3 in another close checking match. Jace Cowan of the Seals led the way with 2 goals while for the Flames Glen Madore and Kyle Hankins both recorded two points each. The shots were also close as the Flames outshot the Seals 25-23.
Early on in the second half the Seals started to dominate the play and it showed on the scoreboard too. The Seals Adam Mattahall had a hat trick and the whole team played a solid team game throughout. The Flames called a time-out when they got behind by 3 goals and it seemed to help. Late in the fourth quarter the Flames pulled to within 2 goals on Kevin Albrecht‟s second of the night and this set the stage for a memorable finish. With the Flames Yan Leclerc pulled for an extra attacker with about a minute left in the game, Hankins tipped in a shot to bring the score to 9-8. The Seals sensing a collapse called their time-out. The last minute of play saw some excellent hockey as Leclerc was still on the bench but the Flames could not get the equalizer as the Seals hung on for the 9-8 win.
Final Score: Seals 9, Flames 8
