NOTES Written by Gazz Friday October 14th Flames vs Nordiques @ 10pm Never did I think the day would come when I would see Captain Critchley and Wayne Woloshyn so proudly wear the Flames jersey. So much for the Oilers and to make matters worse, Woloshyn even threw on a Russian jersey to do his post game interviews…what’s up with that!?? Both evidence of treason in my books. Let’s face it, the Flames on paper appear to be the front runners for hoisting the Cup this year. Leclerc in net. Critchley, Woloshyn and Madore for snipers. Theriault, Gernant, Waddington and the towering Albrecht on defense and Helicopter Hankins and Killer Ranni the representative enforcers. Very well balanced team…I was going to say good looking team but that just wouldn’t be accurate. As for the Nordiques on paper, simply a lot of question marks. What position would JM play? ET at $12.5M? Is he as good as Hern or Dave MacPhee for those kinds of dollars? Richer better be a relative of the former Habs sniper. Goodman? Peloso? McArthur is a former goalie? Anyway, it’s not what’s on paper its how well you play as a team right? Well…as I look down at the scoresheet in front of me and as I recall the game I had the pleasure of reffing on Friday night, it was evident that the Flames lived up to the hype and that questions will follow the Nordiques team into their next scheduled game and likely the rest of the season. The Flames played a solid team game from start to finish. Captain Critchley (3G/2A) may have slowed a touch but still has a wicked shot and is the best leader in the game. Helicopter Hankins (1G/3A) played an excellent game as did Madore (3G) and Killer Ranni (2G/1A). When you’ve got your muckers scoring goals too that’s a great sign! As for ET and the Nordiques, they simply didn’t have the answers and were unable to match the high level of play from the Flames. JM (3G/1A) did what he could and Dort (1G/2A) was strong on defense but this was a one sided affair and Nordiques were simply no match for the powerful team game displayed by the Flames. As evidence, the Flames had 58 shots vs the Nordiques 26. Poor ET…that’s a lot of rubber! Flames burn Nordiques 13-5.  First Star – Chad Critchley  Second Star – Killer Ranni  Third Star – JM Tremblay
